Recital Guidelines

Background

The West Suburban Music Teachers Association holds student recitals multiple times a year. Students of ISMTA member teachers are welcome to perform.  All recitals are open to the public. See the WSMTA Directory for the times and locations of recitals.

The length of the recital is generally limited to 45 minutes of music or a total of 15 participants. If there is insufficient enrollment, recitals are subject to cancellations and the teachers will be informed. If there are questions, contact the Recital Coordinator.

Procedures

Entries are to be submitted using the online Recital Application Form:  https://forms.gle/AXkYaQ9DwKiV953Y7

All applications must be received by the deadline date listed in the West Suburban Directory. No entries will be accepted after the deadline, and no email or telephone entries will be accepted.  If an entry form is incomplete or inaccurate, the coordinator will contact the teacher.

In any one recital, a teacher may enroll up to 4 students from any one studio with a maximum total playing time of 15 minutes of music.

Photographs may be taken at recitals for use on the WSMTA website or social media pages. Teachers must check with parents to get approval or opt out of photos on the recital enrollment form.

Fees

Recital entry is free for students of West Suburban MTA members. Students of teachers from other chapters must pay a fee of $15 each.

Repertoire Selections

Music selected for recitals should be from the AIM Repertoire List, current contest lists, or other works that are in the spirit of AIM repertoire. Pieces must be original compositions, in their original form, not transcriptions or simplified arrangements. Folk songs or arrangements for students at Level 2 or below are permissible.

If the same piece is submitted by two students, the first one received is scheduled. The second can be rescheduled for the following recital, or the teacher may choose another piece.

Preparing Students for the Recital

  • All music except ensembles must be performed by memory.

  • Students should be instructed about stage decorum and performance attire.

  • Performers and their parents are expected to remain for the entire recital.
