Special Events

In addition to our monthly chapter meetings and annual AIM Exams,
our chapter hosts or participates in several special events throughout the school year.

For music teachers:

Teacher Information Exchange Meetings

Our group hosts three TIE meetings during the year - informal gatherings at members' homes where we can discuss teaching challenges, repertoire choices, upcoming AIM exams, recital ideas, and more. It's a great time to take a break from trying to do it all on our own and learn from each other. All members are welcome to these events - if you are new to our chapter, this is a great way to get connected.

Teacher Performance Group Meetings

WSMTA also hosts three performance groups during the year, where members can share repertoire they are learning and polishing. These meetings are wonderful opportunities to get a practice performance in before a big recital, to listen to and share new repertoire, to sight-read duets you may be considering for your students, or to simply sit back and release some stress as you listen to your fellow teachers perform!

Joint Chapters Workshop

The Joint Chapters of Naperville, Salt Creek, Waubonsee Valley, and West Suburban present a workshop once per year, usually in February. Over the years, workshop speakers have covered a variety of topics that are practical and immediately applicable to daily teaching. Proceeds benefit the Berkeley-Pendell Piano Competition Fund.

For music students:

Student Recitals

Students are invited to perform at one of our chapter recitals. Recitals are held in an auditorium with a Steinway grand piano, providing students with a friendly yet formal performance opportunity – perfect for students who need more performance opportunities and for teachers with small studios.
